READALONG: Hunger Games - Progress Report 2

The lovely ladies at Mocha Girls Read and Words That Fly are hosting a read along for:

DISCLAIMER: During the read along, I am going to try and do my best not to give away any spoilers!

Chapters 7-12:

Chapter 7 starts with Katniss and Peeta gearing up for training with the other tributes (what they call the individuals from each district that has been chosen).  They along with the other tributes will get training in different skills that should help them when they get to the arena.  After training, each tribute privately show their skills or best skill to the “gamemakers” (the individuals who creates the challenges for the game).  Once you show your skill, you will be provided a score (1-12 I think) and the higher the score, they more likely you will gain sponsors to help you along the way in the game. Without giving too much away, lets just say that Katniss gave an “unique” lasting impression on the gamemakers!!  LOL!

After training and the private showing of their skills, each tribute will be interviewed in front of a live audience.  Haymitch (their coach and a former winner from their district) informs Katniss that she needs to relate to the audience and she tries her best, but its Peeta that makes a lasing impression and his last statement turns the game on its head!

By chapter 11 we finally get to the start of the games!  This is where the adventure begins.  Without giving too much detail, we follow Katniss through her journey to escape Cornuopia and get away from the group to find water (directions from Haymitch).  However its harder than she expected to find water and once night fall hits she finds a tree for refugee and prepares to rest so that in the morning she can start her journey for water again. After getting settled in for the night, the sky reveals who has died during the day and Katniss is relieved that none had been Peeta.  However she gets a shock of her life when she when pack of tributes arrive and one of them is Peeta!

This book was so awesome and no matter how I tried to just read the weekly assigned chapters for the read along, I ended up reading this book in less than a week!!!  It was such an easy read to get into and I truly understand the hype around it.

See you next week!!!

Great post! I've been finding it hard to stop myself from reading ahead but because I'm re-reading this book and I technically know what's going to happen, I force myself to wait. Knowing what happens doesn't make resisting temptation any easier.
