Monthly Wrap Up: February 2012

OMG!  Can you believe that it is March already????  I will probably say this every month, but this year is really coming along fast!  LOl.  How are your New Year’s Resolutions/Commitments coming along?  More importantly, how are your “reading goals” coming along?

In the month of February I have done the following:

Read the following books:

I reviewed the following books:

  1. Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington
  2. Wild Seed by Octavia Butler
  3. One for the Money by Janet Evanovich
  4. Platinum by Aliya S. King
  5. The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B DuBois
  6.  A Belle in Brooklyn by Demetria Lucas
  7. Why we can’t wait by MLK

I celebrated “Black History Month” in my own way by featuring books everyone (especially minorities) should read and/or have in their collection.  I really enjoyed this feature and plan to do it every year.  I even know the four books I want to feature next year!!

I finished the awesome “Hunger Games” series!  I have not been so into a series (as well as neglected my 90% full DVR) in such a long time.  For this reason, I am completely obsess with anything Hunger Games and will be at the midnight premier (I think it’s safe to say I am hook!).

I am still participating in the “Gone with the Wind” read-along.  The next discussion will be posted on March 15th over at Peeking between the Pages.

I am currently reading Twilight because this month, Pages of Forbidden Love will have a discussion on it.  Actually it is a yearlong Twilight series read-along leading up to the release of the last movie.  Lucky for me my roommate (who is obsess with the Twilight series and became hooked on the Hunger Games series after I suggested that she read them) has all the books so they are right at my disposal!

In January I checked out all of Chelsea Hander’s books from the library.  I planned to have an entire month dedicated to her by reviewing her books and stuff.  Even though My Horizontal Life is a funny easy fast read, lately I have not been feeling her humor.  I am not saying she is a bad person because I truly feel she is not, but after some things that occurred on her show and particularly an interview that she did, she basically lost a fan.  I deleted all three of her shows from my series recording list on my DVR and took back the rest of the books.

I just want to pat myself on the back (LOL) because currently my 50 book reading challenge over at Goodreads is telling me that I am “One book ahead” regarding my progress!

Lastly, I decided that I needed to make monthly reading goals, so for March:
  •  Read 5 books (trying to push myself past the 4 books a month I did in January and February)
  • Finally finish reading 48 Laws of Power.
  • Go see The Hunger Games movie.
  • Check out no more than 1 or 2 books from the library this month.
  • Dive into the life of Jane Austen.
  • Read and study AT LEAST one book from the Bible.

So there we have it…. How was the month of February for you?

You had a busy, great month! I am going to start the Hunger Games series soon. I'll be sure to stop back and comment about it.

I'm on target for most of my reading goals and challenges.

I can't wait to post my review of Twilight and then have the discussion in April. It really was fun to re-read Twilight and I was pleasantly surprised that even after so many people basing the series that I still greatly enjoyed Twilight. :)

I have one more in the Hunger Games series to go. That is cool that you are going to read it every year. I don't think I have ever read a book more than once.

@Alysia: I don't plan to read Hunger Games every year. I plan to dedicate the month of February every year to reading non fiction black history books.
